MILLERSVILLE, Md. — The Anne Arundel County Police Department and the broader community today bid a final farewell to Reserve Major Bruce Petro, who recently passed away.
Reserve Major Petro dedicated 18 years to serving the community as a volunteer in the Reserve Officer Unit, rising to the rank of Reserve Major. His commitment to public service extended beyond his volunteer police work. For the past 17 years, he served as the Secretary of the Anne Arundel County Reserve Officer Foundation. He was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, where he held the rank of Ensign Flotilla 23-04 Staff Officer, participated in the Natural Resources Police Auxiliary, and was involved with the Civil Air Patrol Apollo Squadron, attaining the rank of Lieutenant.
In addition to his public service, Reserve Major Petro was an active member of Our Lady of the Fields Catholic Church in Millersville, Maryland, and the Institute of Industrial Engineers – National Capital Chapter, where he served as a director.
Bruce Petro was known for his diverse interests and hobbies. He was an antique car collector, enjoyed motorcycling, boating, wood carving, and collecting law enforcement memorabilia. He was also a talented musician, playing the guitar, banjo, and dobro.
“Reserve Major Petro lived an amazing life,” said a representative from the Anne Arundel County Police Department. “We are keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
The community honors the memory of Reserve Major Bruce Petro for his unwavering dedication, service, and the positive impact he made throughout his life. His contributions to public safety and his varied personal interests left a lasting legacy that will be remembered by many.
