Montgomery County police investigate early morning shooting on Georgia Avenue

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives are investigating a shooting that left a 25-year-old man injured early Friday morning following an argument in Gaithersburg. The violence unfolded along a busy corridor, with suspects fleeing before officers arrived.

Police responded around 2:04 a.m. to the area of Georgia Avenue and Thayer Avenue after receiving reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they began gathering information about the incident, which remains under active investigation.

Argument escalated into gunfire

According to Montgomery County Police, the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the victim and unidentified individuals. “The preliminary investigation has revealed that unknown suspects were involved in an argument with a 25-year-old male victim. During the altercation, the suspects shot the victim for reasons that remain under investigation,” officials said.

The victim was transported to a hospital by private vehicle and is expected to survive. “The victim was later taken in a private vehicle to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” police said.

No arrests as investigation continues

Authorities have not released any suspect descriptions and confirmed that no arrests have been made. Detectives are urging the public to come forward with information that could help identify those responsible.

“Anyone with information regarding the suspects or this crime is asked to visit the Crime Solvers of Montgomery County,” police said, noting that tips can be submitted anonymously and may be eligible for a reward of up to $10,000.

The investigation is being handled by the department’s 3rd District Investigative Section.
