Grandma’s lottery habit pays off with $50K Annapolis win

ANNAPOLIS, MD – A lifelong memory of watching his grandmother play the Lottery helped turn a $5 scratch-off ticket into a $50,000 prize for an Annapolis man who says the win will help him invest in his future.

The Anne Arundel County resident claimed the prize February 2 at Maryland Lottery headquarters after uncovering a top-tier win on the Money Maker scratch-off game. He told lottery officials his interest in playing dates back to childhood, when he regularly watched his grandmother buy and scratch tickets.

He recalled seeing her win from time to time, an experience that left a lasting impression. When he became old enough, he picked up the habit himself. Now in his 30s, he said he plays weekly and considers it a form of entertainment, crediting his grandmother’s influence for both the hobby and the recent win.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Sunoco gas station located at 1207 Forest Drive in Annapolis. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the ticket, according to the Maryland Lottery.

The winner said he plans to use the money to purchase a new truck, which he hopes will help him start his own business. He described the prize as an opportunity to invest in himself and take the next step forward.
