McKeesport man wanted on probation violation arrested with gun in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, PA — A 25-year-old McKeesport man wanted on a probation violation was arrested in Pittsburgh after detectives say they found a handgun in his hoodie during the take-down, and he now faces new firearm charges in addition to the outstanding bench warrant.

Detectives working from information that the suspect was inside an apartment along Brushton Avenue established a perimeter and observed an individual matching the suspect’s description walking near the intersection of Frankstown and Brushton Avenues. Officers converged and took Donte Harper into custody without incident. During the arrest, detectives noticed a weapon in the front pocket of Harper’s hoodie and secured the firearm.

Harper previously pleaded guilty in December 2024 to two gun charges and was sentenced to three years of probation. A bench warrant was issued at the end of July after investigators alleged a probation violation. He was transported to the Allegheny County Jail to answer the outstanding warrant and to face two additional gun-related charges stemming from the weapon found during his arrest.

Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced the arrest, saying detectives developed the location-based information that led to the arrest. Law enforcement officials reported no injuries and described the arrest as occurring without force.

The new charges will be prosecuted in addition to the existing probation violation matter. Court dates and bond information have not been released by authorities.

The investigation remains active and ongoing as prosecutors and detectives prepare charging paperwork and review evidence related to the firearm recovered at the scene.
