Berkeley Township, NJ – A routine grocery stop at a Route 9 ShopRite ended with a hospital visit and criminal charges after a woman was accused of leaving the store with hundreds of dollars in unpaid merchandise while intoxicated.

Officers responded to the ShopRite at 431 Route 9 after store staff reported a shoplifting incident involving a woman who appeared impaired.

Store surveillance footage was reviewed, and investigators determined that $244 worth of groceries had been taken without payment. The suspect requested medical attention at the scene and was transported to Community Medical Center for treatment.

After receiving care, she was charged with fourth-degree shoplifting. She was later released pending a future court appearance.
