Mayor Lisa Crate is set to dedicate her full attention to Brick Township, having retired from her teaching position.

JACKSON, NJ – Lisa Crate, a longtime teacher within the Jackson Township School District, has officially retired. This move comes after her election victory to complete the term of John Ducey, who left his mayor position to serve as a Superior Court judge in Ocean County.

Crate, who took over last February, had planned this transition before her mayoral win, aiming to fully commit to her mayoral duties in Brick.

Crate’s educational career spanned 31 years, during which she served as a librarian and media specialist at Christa McAuliffe Middle School in Jackson and was also the president of the Jackson Township Education Association. Her decision to retire was influenced by the desire to be more present and active insidetown hall,

She said the decision allows her to be available to the Brick community during the day.

The position of mayor in Brick Township carries an annual salary of $52,000.

Crate, a Democrat, defeated Republican candidate John Catalano in the November 2023 election by a landslide.
