NEWARK, NJ – Newark officials are asking for the public’s help locating a 38-year-old woman wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting investigation on South 7th Street.
Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. identified the woman as Janet Jackson, who detectives are seeking following a gunfire incident reported the morning of January 31.
According to officials, the city’s ShotSpotter system detected gunfire at about 9:12 a.m. in the 100 block of South 7th Street. Surveillance video from the area shows a Black male exiting the front porch of a residence holding a black rifle and firing one round at the property.
Investigators said the suspect then fled the scene in a black sedan, traveling northbound on South 7th Street. No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been announced.
Jackson is described as standing 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing about 165 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Authorities did not specify her connection to the suspect shown in the video.
Director Miranda urged anyone with information about Jackson’s whereabouts to contact police as the investigation continues.
