Lakewood boy who nearly died in freak playground accident heading home today

LAKEWOOD, NJ – Just in time for the sabbath, a Lakewood boy who nearly died in a freak playground accident last Monday is returning home to his family today. The six-year-old boy was injured when his bicycle helmet became entangled in a piece of playground equipment and was hospitalized in critical condition after choking.

He was rescued by other children in the playground who then called for help, according to the Lakewood Police Department. The boy choked to the point of losing consciousness. He was rushed to Jersey Shore Medical Center.

By way of nissim, the boy, Moshe survived and is now expected to make a full recovery.

Today, the family made a public statement thanking the community for the outpouring of support.

“As we sit down and think back at the events of the past week and a half, we are overwhelmed with gratitude to all those that took part in bringing about this miracle and to a number of special individuals in particular. Please accept this statement as a personal thank you,” Yosef Chaim and Shoshana Pollak said in a letter published initially by the Lakewood Scoop. “Family, Friends, and Klal Yisroel you davened, you took on kabalos, you came over to show support, you comforted our children at home, you prepared food for our family, you left us caring messages, you stormed the heavens for our Moshe as you would for your own child, and you really cared. We are happy to report to you that the time has now come to rejoice together for this tremendous miracle we experienced.”
