Anonymous player hits massive $4.4M jackpot in Virginia
CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. — A St. Patrick’s Day gaming session turned into a life-changing moment for a Virginia man who struck a $4.4 million jackpot while playing online, officials said.
The anonymous winner was taking part in a holiday promotion when he decided to try the Jackpot Spectacular game — a move that paid off with a massive $4,418,106 prize.
“I’m in complete shock!” the man told Virginia Lottery officials after claiming his winnings.
At first, he didn’t believe it was real.
Only after receiving an email confirmation did the reality begin to sink in, and even then, it took several minutes for him to fully process what had happened.
The lucky winner said he already knows exactly how he plans to use part of the money — by giving back to someone close to him.
He plans to buy his mother a house.
“She will be very surprised,” he said. “She deserves it more than anything!”
Under Virginia law, lottery winners of $1 million or more can remain anonymous, which is why the man’s identity has not been released.
Jackpot Spectacular is a multi-state progressive jackpot game offered online, with odds of winning any prize at about 1 in 3.99.
