Man knocked unconscious in Halloween attack at DC Metro station
Washington, DC — A Halloween weekend assault at a downtown Metro station left a man unconscious after he was repeatedly struck in the head during what began as a taunting over his costume, according to police.
The violent encounter unfolded just before 12:30 a.m. on Friday at the Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter Metro Station. A group of individuals reportedly confronted a man as he exited a train and began mocking his Halloween attire.
Police say the situation escalated when one person from the group approached the victim from behind and began striking him in the back of the head multiple times. The attack left the victim unconscious on the platform.
Emergency responders transported the man to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. His identity has not been released, and authorities have not indicated whether he has since been discharged.
As of Wednesday, no arrests have been announced. The Metropolitan Police Department is working to identify the suspect responsible for the assault and is reviewing station surveillance footage.
The attack occurred during a busy Halloween weekend in the District, when large crowds were out celebrating at events and gatherings across the city.
