Man scratches off $1 million jackpot in 7-Eleven parking lot in Virginia

Virginia man scores $1 million prize on scratch off

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — An anonymous Virginia man struck it rich in dramatic fashion, winning a $1 million lottery prize just moments after buying a scratch-off ticket at a local 7-Eleven.

The man purchased a 20X the Money ticket at the store on Tidewater Trail and scratched it in the parking lot, where he quickly realized he had hit the game’s top prize.

“I started crying from happiness!” he told lottery officials.

Still in disbelief, he drove straight home to wake up his wife and share the news.

“I woke up my wife and told her, and we hugged each other,” he said. “We’re still reacting. It’s unbelievable!”

Virginia law allows winners of $1 million or more to remain anonymous, so his identity has not been released.

The winning game offers top prizes of $1 million, with several still unclaimed. The odds of hitting the top prize are about 1 in 1.6 million.

Despite the life-changing win, the winner said he plans to celebrate in a simple way — with a fancy dinner at Olive Garden.
