A familiar face at youth sports, school events and police community programs, John P. McGuire is being remembered for decades of volunteer service to Manchester Township.
MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Manchester Township is mourning the loss of longtime resident and community volunteer John P. McGuire, whose decades of service touched local youth organizations, schools and public safety initiatives.
Manchester Township Police Chief Antonio Ellis announced McGuire’s passing, describing him as a steadfast supporter of the community and the police department.
McGuire began volunteering with Manchester Little League in the 1980s, helping secure improved playing fields and snack bars for the organization.

Over the years, he also volunteered with the local school district, sold bagels to benefit the Municipal Alliance, assisted with Manchester PBA Local 246 events, served as a member of the Manchester Police Foundation and supported community events throughout Manchester Township and neighboring Lakehurst, including National Night Out.
Police said McGuire was known for his willingness to help whenever needed and for greeting others with a smile and a kind word.
Last July, Chief Ellis joined Municipal Alliance Coordinator Barbara Sprechman in presenting McGuire with the Community Champion Award in recognition of his years of volunteer service.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time,” the department said in a statement. “Thank you, John, for all that you did to make Manchester Township a better place for generations to come.”
