Last minute turn delivers $100000 lottery win in Laurel
LAUREL, MD – A routine drive home changed course at a traffic light, leading a Montgomery County truck driver to make a spontaneous stop that turned a $10 scratch off into a $100000 Maryland Lottery win.
The winner said he was heading home from work when he noticed a 7 Eleven at 605 7th Street in Laurel and decided at the last moment to pull in. He used a $10 Lottery voucher to purchase a single ticket from the 50X the Cash scratch off game, a relatively new release.
After returning to his vehicle, the man scratched the ticket and initially believed he had won $500, unfamiliar with the multiplier feature on the game. Confusion turned into disbelief when he uncovered a 10X multiplier paired with a $10000 prize, bringing the total win to $100000.
The winner claimed the prize Friday at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. Aside from his wife, he has not shared the news with others. He said the money will be used for practical financial needs along with a vacation planned for a warmer destination.
The Laurel 7 Eleven that sold the winning ticket will receive a $1000 bonus from the Lottery.
The win represents the second of nine $100000 top prizes available in the 50X the Cash game. Remaining prizes include nine $50000 prizes and thousands of others ranging from $10 to $10000.
