BELTSVILLE, Md. — A Prince George’s County man was arrested Thursday by Maryland State Police on multiple felony charges related to the production, possession, and viewing of child pornography, authorities announced.
Edwin Antonio Valdez Olivar, 41, of Beltsville, is facing seven counts each of possessing, accessing, and causing the production of child pornography following an investigation that began in December.
Investigators with the Maryland State Police Computer Crimes Unit identified Olivar as the recipient of explicit material involving children, which was located on his cellphone. A search warrant was executed at his residence on May 29.
Troopers from the Computer Crimes Unit and College Park Barrack, alongside the Prince George’s County Police Department and U.S. Department of Homeland Security agents, served the warrant and arrested Olivar without incident.
Statewide task force targets internet crimes against children
The case is being handled by the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a multi-agency initiative focused on combating online child exploitation. The task force operates under the Maryland State Police and is supported by federal and state grants.
The investigation remains ongoing and officials say further charges or developments may be forthcoming.
