Maryland woman hits $100k lottery win after friend’s nudge

Baltimore woman wins $100k on a whim after rarely playing the lottery

BALTIMORE, Md. – A Baltimore woman who almost never plays the lottery is $100,000 richer after taking a friend’s suggestion to buy a scratch-off ticket during a casual meet-up at a local gas station.

Tamicka Dixon-Epps said she only played “once or twice” before, and only with co-workers. But on a recent weekend, she decided to buy a Double Your Money ticket at the Citgo station at 2330 Harford Road — and couldn’t believe what happened next.

Key Points

  • Baltimore woman wins $100,000 on Double Your Money scratch-off
  • Ticket purchased at Citgo station on Harford Road
  • Store receives $1,000 bonus for selling top-prize winner

Shock and disbelief

Dixon-Epps said she scanned her ticket several times after it kept showing the $100,000 win. “I just didn’t believe it,” she recalled. “$100,000? There’s no way that could be right.” The station manager confirmed her win as her friend cheered beside her.

Overwhelmed, Dixon-Epps said her knees shook and her heart raced as she realized the life-changing amount she had just won.

New plans ahead

The lucky winner told lottery officials she hopes to put her prize toward buying a home. Double Your Money, a $10 scratch-off that debuted in July, still has nine top prizes of $100,000 remaining.

The Citgo station that sold the winning ticket will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
