A Monmouth County resident in New Jersey has tested positive for measles following an international trip, according to state health officials. The individual, whose symptoms began shortly after returning, is the only confirmed case so far. The New Jersey Department of Health has identified several locations the infected person visited, potentially exposing others to the virus.
Potential exposure sites include:
- Livoti’s Old World Market in Freehold (Sept. 30, 5:30-8:30 p.m.)
- El Rancho Mexican Restaurant in Freehold (Oct. 1, 7:30-10:30 p.m.)
- Elizabeth Chassis Depot near the “Welcome to Elizabeth Terminal” sign (Oct. 1-3, all day)
- Atlantic Health Immediate Care in Marlboro (Oct. 6, 3-6 p.m.)
- Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City (Oct. 7, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.)
Anyone who visited these locations during the specified times is advised to monitor for symptoms and contact healthcare providers if they suspect infection. Measles symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash, which may appear up to two weeks after exposure. Those not fully vaccinated or who haven’t had measles before are at higher risk of contracting the virus.
New Jersey health officials are conducting contact tracing to notify individuals who may have been exposed.
