MEDFORD, N.Y. — Suffolk County Police officers rescued a kitten trapped in a storm drain Saturday afternoon, after a resident reported hearing cries coming from beneath Jordan Drive.
Emergency Service Section officers responded around 2:45 p.m. and safely removed the kitten from the drain. The Suffolk County Police Department shared details of the incident on social media, calling attention to the quick response.
As officers worked to open the grate, a local resident volunteered to adopt the animal on the spot.
“While our officers opened the grate, a local resident opened their heart and took the little feline in,” the department said in a post.
The kitten was not injured and was immediately taken into the care of the new owner. No further medical intervention was required.
Police did not release the name of the resident who adopted the kitten.
A Suffolk police spokesperson confirmed the department regularly responds to animal rescue calls, especially in the summer months.
