RAMAPO, NY — Daniel Hyman has been officially sworn in as Chief of the Town of Ramapo Police Department, marking a significant step in his extensive law enforcement career. Chief Hyman’s journey began in July 1987 at the NYPD academy, and he was assigned to the 26th precinct in Harlem.
In October 1989, he transitioned to the Ramapo Police Department and has since taken on various roles, including Field Training Officer and FBI Firearms Instructor. His ascent through the ranks is notable: promoted to sergeant in 2003, he managed the Emergency Communication Center. By 2010, he became a lieutenant, commanding patrol squads and overseeing midnight patrols.
Further promotions followed, with Hyman advancing to Administrative Lieutenant in 2017 and then to Operations Captain in 2019. Prior to his current role, he served as Chief of Staff Captain, becoming second in command of the department. Chief Hyman is also an alumnus of the FBI National Academy and the 2014 Leadership Rockland Program.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by notable figures including District Attorney Tom Walsh and Chief of Detectives Deirdre Smith. The Rockland County District Attorney’s Office expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with Chief Hyman and extended best wishes for his tenure in serving the Ramapo community.
