PHILADELPHIA — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Philadelphia removed Giyosiddin Ergashev, a citizen of Uzbekistan wanted for fraud in his home country, on May 29.
“ICE is committed to safeguarding the American public and enhancing national security by removing those who evade justice in their home countries and try to find sanctuary in the U.S.,” said ERO Philadelphia acting Field Office Director Brian McShane. “The removal of Ergashev exemplifies our commitment to protect the homeland from foreign criminals.”
Ergashev initially entered the United States illegally on February 14, 2023, when he was arrested by U.S. Border Patrol near San Luis, Arizona, for entering without inspection or parole. He was served a notice to appear, charged with inadmissibility under Section 212 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, and transferred to ERO Phoenix, where he was detained at the Florence Service Processing Center.
One week later, on February 21, 2023, Ergashev was released on an order of recognizance. Authorities in Uzbekistan issued an arrest warrant for him on November 29, 2023.
Targeted enforcement action leads to arrest
On July 22, 2024, ERO New York arrested Ergashev during a targeted enforcement action and subsequently transferred him to ERO Philadelphia. He was detained at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Philipsburg while his immigration proceedings continued.
On February 18, an immigration judge ordered Ergashev’s removal to Uzbekistan. After his removal was finalized, ERO agents coordinated his transportation and returned him to Uzbekistan, where he was turned over to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
ICE stated that the removal reflects ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws while coordinating with international partners to ensure fugitives face justice.
The case highlights ICE’s continued focus on targeting foreign nationals wanted for criminal offenses abroad.
