Mikie Sherrill Pulled the Police At Delaney Hall “To Appease the Psychos” Crispi Says

A conservative commentator is accusing Gov. Mikie Sherrill of weakening law enforcement efforts at Newark’s Delaney Hall protest site, while supporters of the demonstrations continue to criticize the police response.

Newark, N.J. – The ongoing unrest surrounding protests outside Newark’s Delaney Hall detention facility has sparked a new political battle, with critics accusing Gov. Mikie Sherrill and Newark city officials of mishandling public safety as confrontations, arrests and injuries continue to mount.

The latest criticism came from political commentator Mike Crispi, who argued that state and local leaders scaled back enforcement measures after order had been restored around the facility.

Key Points

• Critics are questioning decisions surrounding law enforcement deployments at Delaney Hall.

• Protests have continued for more than two weeks outside the Newark detention facility.

• The debate comes amid arrests, injuries and growing political scrutiny.

In a social media post Saturday, Crispi outlined a series of events that he believes contributed to renewed unrest around the facility.

“Let’s recap what has gone here at Delaney Hall,” Crispi wrote before arguing that law enforcement intervention and a Newark curfew had previously restored order.

“Order is RESTORED, problem solved right?” he wrote.

Crispi then alleged that political pressure from activists and media organizations led state officials to reverse course.

“Sherrill faces massive pressure from radical left because chaos has stopped, left wing media piles on her, so in response she takes the cops OUT to appease these psychos,” Crispi wrote. “And the Newark mayor lifts curfew even though it was working.”

Criticism follows renewed confrontations

The comments come after another volatile night outside Delaney Hall that included multiple arrests, confrontations between protesters and individuals entering or leaving the facility, and an incident in which at least two protesters were reportedly struck by a vehicle exiting the property.

Protest organizers, meanwhile, have continued to argue that law enforcement tactics have contributed to tensions surrounding the demonstrations and not their actions of attacking civilian employees and ICE agents.

Delaney Hall remains flashpoint

The protests began over immigration detention operations at Delaney Hall and have evolved into one of New Jersey’s most closely watched political and public safety controversies.

State and local officials have repeatedly stated that peaceful protest is protected while warning that violence, property destruction and assaults will result in arrests and criminal charges.

New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport has said the protests are “Overwhelmingly Peacefull” while video accounts from the scene show violence and chaos reigning each day.

As investigations continue into incidents that occurred during the demonstrations, the political debate surrounding the state’s response shows little sign of slowing down.

“Have we ever seen a more INSANE sequence for a Governor in New Jersey history?” Crispi wrote.
