A months-long investigation ended with a Lancaster man facing drug trafficking charges after detectives seized large quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, cash and firearms, authorities said.

LANCASTER, Pa. — A Lancaster man has been charged after a multi-agency drug investigation led to the seizure of more than 700 grams of cocaine, more than 110 grams of fentanyl, two handguns and more than $27,300 in cash, according to the Lancaster County Drug Task Force.

Francisco Mercado, 50, is charged with four counts of possession with intent to deliver, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to the Drug Task Force, detectives began investigating alleged bulk fentanyl sales from Mercado’s residence in the 700 block of Manor Street in February.

Authorities said confidential informants and undercover officers conducted several controlled purchases of fentanyl at the residence through June.

On June 26, the Lancaster County Drug Task Force, assisted by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Pennsylvania State Police and a Lancaster City Bureau of Police K-9 officer, executed search warrants at Mercado’s home, two vehicles and two storage units in Manor Township.

Investigators reported seizing more than 700 grams of cocaine powder, valued at more than $71,000; more than 110 grams of fentanyl, valued at more than $11,000; more than $27,300 in cash; 15 oxycodone pills; 60 alprazolam pills; two handguns; and drug paraphernalia.

Authorities said Mercado admitted during questioning that the cocaine recovered during the search was intended for sale.

Following a preliminary arraignment on June 26, Judge Mary Mongiovi Sponaugle set bail at $75,000. Mercado remains in Lancaster County Prison after failing to post bail.

The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
