TRENTON, N.J. — A series of crashes and traffic delays disrupted the Monday morning commute across several major New Jersey highways, with incidents reported on the New Jersey Turnpike, Garden State Parkway, and Route 70.
As of 8:39 a.m., a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike inner roadway southbound just south of Interchange 13A in Elizabeth blocked the left lane. Traffic was affected in the vicinity of Newark Liberty International Airport and U.S. 1&9.
Earlier, at 8:11 a.m., a separate crash occurred on the Garden State Parkway southbound just south of Exit 148 in East Orange. All lanes remained open, and the involved vehicles were moved to the right shoulder.
At 7:00 a.m., a crash on NJ Route 70 westbound west of CR 636/Cuthbert Boulevard in Pennsauken Township shut down all lanes. No update has been provided on when the roadway will reopen.
Travel delays continue across major roadways
Additional delays were reported at several locations despite open lanes. As of 8:40 a.m., congestion was reported on North Avenue eastbound entering the New Jersey Motor Truck Association terminal in Elizabeth.
US 206 southbound in Mount Olive Township was experiencing delays near CR 613/Flanders Netcong Road as of 8:37 a.m., although all lanes remained open.
Northbound I-287 also saw traffic backups from the New Jersey Turnpike to south of Exit 2 in Edison Township by 8:34 a.m., with no lane closures reported.
At the Holland Tunnel, delays were ongoing on the New Jersey side at the south tunnel toll plaza in Jersey City. As of 8:27 a.m., the estimated travel time to the New York side was 30 minutes from both New Jersey Turnpike Exit 14C and New Jersey Route 139 at Tonnelle Circle.
