North Ridgeville man’s longtime lucky numbers delivered a six-figure Ohio Lottery jackpot
NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — A Navy veteran at work checking lottery results suddenly jumped up, dropped his phone and started screaming after realizing the winning ticket had been in his pocket all along.
The Ohio Lottery announced that Brian C. of North Ridgeville claimed a $100,001 Rolling Cash 5 jackpot after matching all five winning numbers in the June 10 drawing.
Brian purchased the winning ticket at VFW Post #9871, located at 6805 Lear Nagle Road in North Ridgeville.
A few days after the drawing, Brian said he was at work when he learned the winning ticket had been sold at the VFW. He checked his ticket and discovered he was holding the jackpot winner.
According to the Ohio Lottery, Brian’s reaction immediately caught the attention of a coworker, who joked that he must have seen a mouse after watching him jump up, drop his phone and begin screaming.
The winning numbers carried personal significance for Brian.
He told lottery officials that 11, 22 and 28 were numbers he and his cousin had played together in KENO for years before his cousin’s death. His remaining numbers, 3 and 31, were tied to important birthdays.
The jackpot prize totaled $100,001. After mandatory federal and state tax withholdings of 26.75%, Brian will receive $73,250.73.
He said he plans to pay off bills and take a trip, though he has not yet decided on a destination.
Rolling Cash 5 is an Ohio Lottery daily draw game featuring a minimum jackpot of $100,000. Drawings are held every day at approximately 7:05 p.m.
The odds of matching all five numbers and winning the jackpot are 1 in 575,757.
