A Sheffield Lake ticket holder thought the result was a mistake until a second scan changed everything
LORAIN, Ohio — A Lorain County woman who doubted her lottery ticket was a winner got confirmation in dramatic fashion when she and a friend scanned it at a store and realized the prize was real.
The Ohio Lottery said the woman purchased a MILLIONAIRE FOR LIFE™ ticket for the June 6 drawing and matched four white balls and the Millionaire Ball. The winning numbers were 3, 13, 18, 35, 48, and Millionaire Ball 4.
The player used the game’s auto-pick feature to select her numbers.
According to the Ohio Lottery, the woman initially did not believe she had won. She picked up a friend and went to a store to scan the ticket again.
When the ticket was scanned, her friend shouted that she had won, prompting both of them to begin screaming.
The winner received a prize of $7,500. After mandatory state and federal tax withholdings totaling 26.75%, she will receive $5,493.75.
She told lottery officials she plans to use the money to take a trip to visit her father out of state.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shoreway Beverage, located at 4169 Lake Road in Sheffield Lake.
Ohio Lottery officials said the odds of winning the prize by matching four white balls and the Millionaire Ball are 1 in 86,455.02.
