New britain man arrested after high-speed pursuit across eastern connecticut

NEW BRITAIN, CT—A man from New Britain was arrested after leading state troopers on a high-speed chase through several towns in Eastern Connecticut. The incident began around 4:34 PM on Thursday when Troop E-Montville received a 911 call concerning a road rage episode on I-395 northbound near exit 21 in Griswold. The caller reported that the driver of a white BMW X5 SUV had brandished a firearm.

Troopers located the vehicle near exit 24, but the driver refused to comply with commands to stop, initiating a pursuit. The chase proceeded through Plainfield, Canterbury, Scotland, and Windham, concluding in Columbia.

During the pursuit, the BMW nearly collided head-on with another trooper’s vehicle on Route 14 in Canterbury.

After the pursuit ended in Columbia, the driver and a passenger fled the vehicle on foot. The driver, identified as Jadin Coakley, was soon apprehended and taken into custody.

The vehicle was reported stolen from Ridgefield, CT. At the scene, troopers recovered a firearm and suspected narcotics, aligning with the initial 911 report.

Coakley faces multiple charges including illegal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, threatening, larceny, and engaging police in pursuit.

The search for the juvenile passenger is ongoing, following his identification by authorities.
