New Jersey faces another week of thunderstorms as residents recover from overnight flood

TRENTON, N.J. — The National Weather Service is forecasting seven more days of unsettled weather across New Jersey, with daily chances of showers and thunderstorms expected through Monday.

The extended forecast, issued Tuesday morning, shows varying precipitation chances each day, ranging from 30% to 60%, with high temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s through the weekend.

On Tuesday, forecasters called for a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, with highs near 85 degrees. Wednesday’s outlook includes a 50% chance of storms developing after 11 a.m., as temperatures rise to around 89 degrees.

The pattern continues through Thursday, with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible in the morning and again in the afternoon. Highs are expected to reach near 91, with slightly lower overnight temperatures in the mid-70s.

Friday brings another 40% chance of afternoon storms, while Saturday offers a brief reprieve with mostly sunny skies. However, the break may be short-lived. Rain returns Saturday night and intensifies on Sunday, when the chance of thunderstorms increases to 60%, continuing into Sunday night.

The week is forecast to end with more potential showers and thunderstorms on Monday, with temperatures holding steady near 87 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, “New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch [are expected] except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms,” a statement repeated throughout the forecast.

The series of storms follows a flash flooding event in Cranford on Monday, which brought over 6 inches of rain and caused widespread roadway flooding and emergency rescues.
