New Jersey man jailed after child exploitation investigation tied to online activity

Man faces multiple charges after digital investigation

Holland Township, NJ — A cyber tip investigation led to the arrest of a Hunterdon County man accused of possessing and attempting to distribute child sexual abuse material, according to prosecutors.

Joshua Montagna, 29, of Holland Township, was taken into custody April 24 following an investigation by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crimes Unit.

Authorities said the case began with a referral from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Detectives later executed search warrants at multiple locations, seizing a cellphone that allegedly contained evidence tied to the case.

Investigators said forensic analysis indicated Montagna downloaded images and videos depicting child sexual abuse material and communicated with individuals he believed to be minors.

Montagna is charged with multiple offenses, including attempted endangering the welfare of a child, attempted sexual assault of a child, possession of child sexual abuse material, and related charges.

He is being held at the Warren County Jail pending a court appearance and detention hearing scheduled for May 13.
