NJ traffic report: lane closures on I-295, Turnpike, I-676; delays at Hudson crossings

Trenton, NJ – Multiple crashes, lane closures, and heavy congestion are impacting the Tuesday morning commute across New Jersey, with several major highways and river crossings experiencing delays during peak travel hours.

As of approximately 8:50 a.m., a debris incident on I-295 southbound near Exit 67 (US 1) in Lawrence Township has closed two right lanes and the shoulder, slowing traffic significantly in the area.

At the same time, a crash on Route 495 eastbound at Kennedy Boulevard in North Bergen has blocked two left lanes, adding to congestion for drivers heading toward the Lincoln Tunnel.

Multiple crashes reported across key corridors

Additional incidents are contributing to delays statewide. A crash on the New Jersey Turnpike Western Spur northbound near Interchange 15E in Newark has closed the left lane, while another crash on I-676 southbound near Exit 5 in Camden has shut down the right lane and shoulder.

Drivers heading into New York City are also seeing slowdowns. Delays are reported on both levels of the George Washington Bridge westbound, with travel times reaching approximately 15 minutes on the Cross Bronx Expressway. At the Holland Tunnel, eastbound travel times are up to 30 minutes from the New Jersey Turnpike Extension.

Volume-related delays are also building on the New Jersey Turnpike northbound near US 46 in Ridgefield.

Airport parking near capacity, restrictions in place

Outside the highway system, parking at JFK Airport is nearing capacity. Terminal 4 parking is reported at 98% full, while Terminal 5 parking has reached 100% occupancy.

Officials also noted truck restrictions remain in place on the lower level of the George Washington Bridge eastbound, with commercial vehicles directed to specific exit routes.
