ELIZABETH, NJ – The New Jersey State Police provided an incredibly fun day of soccer with local children in Elizabeth recently.
On August 13, troopers from the New Jersey Latino Trooper Society (NJLATS) partnered with the Elizabeth Youth Soccer (EYS) Club to host a free youth soccer clinic in Elizabeth, N.J.
“The clinic was led by Trooper Angela Correia, who is originally from Elizabeth and was the first female to play for EYS. Trooper Correia also played on the Portuguese national team and shared her knowledge of the game with the participants,” the agency said this weekend. “During the session, those in attendance were treated to a fly-over by the State Police Aviation Unit. One player even said that was going to be him one day.”
All the children in attendance were provided with a soccer ball and a bag of school supplies donated by NJLATS and Lady Blue and Gold.
Detectives from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit were also in attendance educating families about internet safety and members of the Union County Sheriff’s Office were on hand creating EPIC Child ID cards.
“It was a great event as the players had an opportunity to hone their skills and learn more about the game from some experienced coaches,” the department said. “The event was also made possible with assistance from the Moving New Jersey Forward Foundation.”
