A 27-year-old North Brunswick man is accused of attempting to lure four juvenile boys while they were walking home from school, leading to multiple kidnapping and child endangerment charges.
A North Brunswick man has been arrested and charged after investigators say he approached four juvenile boys and attempted to take them with him as they walked home from school last month.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Linda Estremera and North Brunswick Police Director Joseph A. Battaglia announced that Andrew Luna, 27, of North Brunswick, was charged following an investigation into the incident that occurred on May 20.
Children approached near North Brunswick Library
According to authorities, North Brunswick police were notified after four juvenile males reported being approached by an unknown man who followed them and told them he wanted to take them home.
Investigators later identified the suspect as Luna.
Police said Luna first approached two boys near the North Brunswick Library and allegedly attempted to kidnap them.
“An investigation determined that Luna approached two juvenile males near the North Brunswick Library and attempted to kidnap them,” authorities said.
Suspect allegedly approached two more juveniles
After the first two boys fled the area, investigators said Luna immediately approached two other juvenile males and engaged in similar conduct.
Authorities did not report any physical injuries, and all four juveniles were able to leave the area safely.
After reviewing evidence and conducting interviews, detectives identified Luna as the suspect.
Arrest made without incident
Luna was arrested without incident on May 29 and charged with four counts of second-degree attempted kidnapping and four counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
“After the juveniles fled the area, Luna immediately approached two other juvenile males and engaged in similar conduct,” investigators said.
The investigation was conducted by Detective Sean McCorry of the North Brunswick Police Department and Detective Tammy Colonna of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact North Brunswick police at 732-247-0922 or the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-3606.
