NYPD seeks suspect in hate-fueled assault outside Brooklyn storefront

BROOKLYN, NY – Police are searching for a suspect who attacked a woman with a chair after making anti-LGBTQIA+ remarks during an incident in East New York earlier this month.

The assault occurred around 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, in front of 433 New Lots Avenue, according to the NYPD.

Investigators said a 35-year-old woman was approached by an unidentified individual who began making hate-filled statements before striking her in the arm with a chair.

The attacker then fled the scene in a white Jeep Compass heading westbound on New Lots Avenue.

The victim suffered minor injuries but declined medical treatment at the scene.

Hate Crime Task Force leading investigation

The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the assault and working to identify the suspect captured in nearby surveillance footage.

Detectives have released images of the individual and vehicle believed to be involved and are urging the public to come forward with any information.

Anyone with details about the incident or the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline.

Authorities say all reports will remain confidential.

Police continue to search for the assailant as the investigation into the hate-motivated attack remains active.
