Officer jumped by shoplifters in brutal market attack

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A confrontation over concealed merchandise escalated into violence Saturday morning when two individuals assaulted a Special Police Officer attempting to intervene at a grocery store in Southeast.

The incident unfolded around 9:26 a.m. on June 7 in the 400 block of 14th Street SE. The suspects were seen attempting to leave the store with unpaid goods when the officer, assigned to the location, confronted them. In response, the suspects physically attacked the officer before fleeing the scene.

Surveillance footage captured clear images of the suspects, who have not yet been identified. No arrests have been made.

The officer’s injuries have not been disclosed, and the case remains under investigation.

MPD offers reward in assault case at Southeast grocery

A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of those involved. Tips can be submitted by calling (202) 727-9099 or texting 50411.

The investigation is ongoing as officials review footage and pursue leads.
