One year later, third suspect nabbed in DC shooting

Third teen arrested in connection to 2024 shooting on N Street in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON, DC — A third 19-year-old suspect has been arrested in a year-old shooting case in Northwest DC, marking another development in an ongoing investigation that began with gunfire but no reported injuries.

The original incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on October 14, 2024, when officers responded to the 700 block of N Street NW after reports of gunshots. While police found evidence of a shooting, no victims were located at the scene.

Now, nearly a year later, the Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed the arrest of 19-year-old Gregory Nelson of Northwest DC. Nelson was taken into custody on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, under a DC Superior Court arrest warrant. He is charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), the same charge previously filed against two other suspects in the case.

Earlier this month, on October 1, Lorenzo Covington, also 19, was arrested in connection with the same incident. Just over a week later, on October 9, police arrested 19-year-old Zion Greely. All three individuals are residents of Northwest DC.

Police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains open.
