Pennsylvania Avenue shooting suspect captured by task force

DC teen arrested in fatal Pennsylvania Avenue shooting that left man dead days before Christmas

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred just days before Christmas in Southeast Washington, claiming the life of a 23-year-old victim.

On January 6, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Kevin William Dorsey Jr., of Northeast D.C., on an outstanding warrant for second degree murder while armed. The charge stems from a December 21 homicide in the 2300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast.

At approximately 6:03 a.m. that morning, Sixth District officers responded to reports of gunfire and found an adult male at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, later identified as Dennis Ziegler, 23, of Northeast D.C., was unconscious and not breathing.

Ziegler was transported by DC Fire and EMS to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.

Police launched a homicide investigation, and nearly two weeks later, investigators secured a warrant for Dorsey Jr.’s arrest. He was taken into custody without incident and is now facing formal charges in D.C. Superior Court.

No additional details regarding motive or the events leading up to the shooting have been released at this time.
