Pennsylvania Man Accused of Exposing Himself to Child, Leading Police on I-68 Chase

Authorities say a Pennsylvania man exposed himself to multiple people, including a child, before fleeing deputies on Interstate 68 and fighting with officers during his arrest.

LaVale, MD – A Pennsylvania man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he indecently exposed himself to several people, including a child, at a shopping plaza before leading law enforcement on a brief pursuit along Interstate 68.

According to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday after the Maryland State Police received a complaint that the driver of a gray GMC pickup truck had exposed himself to several individuals at the Braddock Square Shopping Plaza in LaVale.

Deputy spots suspect on Interstate 68

Shortly after the information was broadcast, an Allegany County deputy located the suspect vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 68.

The deputy attempted to stop the pickup by activating emergency lights and siren, but authorities said the driver refused to pull over and continued driving.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 68 east of Cumberland.

Suspect allegedly fought deputy during arrest

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver refused repeated commands to exit the truck.

When he eventually got out of the vehicle, authorities said he became combative as the deputy attempted to place him under arrest.

Following a struggle on the roadside, the deputy, assisted by two Maryland State Troopers who arrived at the scene, was able to take the suspect into custody.

Emergency medical personnel evaluated the suspect for minor injuries sustained during the altercation.

Multiple charges filed

Authorities identified the suspect as Todd Charles German, 58, of Pennsylvania.

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office charged German with:

  • Second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer
  • Obstructing and hindering
  • Multiple traffic offenses

The Maryland State Police are expected to file additional charges related to the original indecent exposure complaint.

German was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center, where he is being held pending his initial appearance before a District Court commissioner.
