Perp steals vehicle at gunpoint in bronx carjacking, nypd seeks public's help

BRONX, N.Y. — A 43-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint and had his vehicle stolen during a late-night carjacking in the Bronx, prompting the New York City Police Department to ask for the public’s help identifying the suspect. The incident occurred near Carter Avenue and East 173rd Street in the Morris Heights area, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers.

The suspect remains at large as investigators continue to search for leads in the case.

Driver Confronted While Sitting in Vehicle

The robbery occurred at approximately 11:25 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, within the confines of the NYPD’s 44th Precinct.

According to police, the victim was seated in the driver’s seat of his vehicle when an unidentified individual approached him and displayed a firearm.

Investigators said the suspect demanded the victim’s property and vehicle.

After taking the victim’s belongings, the armed suspect took possession of the vehicle and fled the area.

Police said the suspect drove eastbound on East 173rd Street following the robbery.

Suspect Remains Unidentified

The NYPD has not released a description of the suspect and did not provide details about the stolen vehicle in the information released to the public.

Authorities also have not disclosed whether the victim suffered any physical injuries during the encounter.

The investigation remains active as detectives work to identify and locate the person responsible.
