Philadelphia Officer Shot During Traffic Stop, Suspect in Custody

PHILADELPHIA, PA—A Philadelphia police officer was critically injured after being shot in the neck during a traffic stop on Saturday night in the city’s Kensington area. The incident occurred just before 8 PM on the 3500 block of F Street.

Following the shooting, authorities launched a two-hour manhunt that concluded with the arrest of the suspect around 10 PM near the 800 block of E. Schiller Street. The officer was swiftly transported to Temple University Hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.

Durig the incident, a news helicopter reportedly interfered with the operation and had to be called off by police.

The Philadelphia Police Department had requested that a media helicopter in the area to immediately leave the vicinity of the area of 800 Schiller Street to prevent interference with ongoing operations and to ensure officer safety.

Cpl. Jasmine Reilly of the Office of Media Relations/Public Affairs has issued a statement confirming the details and providing contact information for further inquiries.
