Maryland Powerball surge creates $1 million winner and 12 more big-ticket prizes in record week
BALTIMORE, MD – As Powerball fever swept the country with a $1.787 billion jackpot drawing on September 6, Maryland Lottery players quietly racked up more than $13.4 million in prizes — including one newly minted millionaire and 12 others who each claimed at least $50,000.
Though no jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Maryland, one player in Pikesville matched all five white balls for a $1 million second-tier win. In the same drawing, 12 additional Powerball players across the state scored third-tier prizes of $50,000 or more.
The prize surge came during a 42-draw jackpot roll that began after the previous Powerball jackpot was hit on May 31. Powerball ticket sales in Maryland during that period also contributed an estimated $14.5 million in funding for state programs and services, with roughly 25 cents of every dollar spent going toward public support initiatives.
Other Maryland Lottery games added to the week’s momentum. On September 7, a FAST PLAY ticket worth $140,569 was sold in Cumberland. In total, Maryland Lottery players won more than $32.6 million across all games from September 1 through 7, with 37 tickets worth $10,000 or more either sold or redeemed in that time frame.
All winning tickets should be signed immediately and stored securely. Prizes over $25,000 must be claimed at the Maryland Lottery’s Customer Resource Center in Baltimore by appointment. Prizes up to $25,000 may be claimed at any of the state’s six casinos. Tickets worth up to $600 can be redeemed at any Maryland Lottery retailer. Deadlines to claim vary by game, with draw and FAST PLAY tickets expiring 182 days after the purchase or drawing date.
