Queens driver to be sentenced in deadly 3-car pileup

QUEENS, N.Y. — A Roosevelt man has pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and assault in connection with a fatal high-speed crash that killed one of his passengers and seriously injured three others, including his sister, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced Friday.

Reginald Nash, 26, admitted to driving at 89 miles per hour with a blood alcohol content of .12 percent when he lost control of his 2021 Honda Accord on the Long Island Expressway in the early morning hours of November 19, 2023.

The crash began when Nash’s vehicle struck a highway attenuator near the Greenpoint Avenue exit at approximately 4:30 a.m., causing the car to spin out of control and collide with a Toyota, which then hit a Kia. Nash’s vehicle sustained extensive damage and came to rest facing the wrong direction.

One passenger, 23-year-old Cameron Mency, was ejected from the vehicle and landed about 90 feet away. She was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Three others injured in violent three-car crash

Three other passengers were seriously injured. One underwent multiple surgeries for back injuries and another suffered a fractured tibia along with head and body trauma. Nash’s sister was also among those injured in the wreck.

The vehicle’s black box confirmed Nash was speeding just five seconds before impact. Prosecutors say his decision to drive while intoxicated and at high speed caused the catastrophic wreck.

Nash entered his plea before Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Hartofilis and is expected to be sentenced on July 23. He faces 7 to 21 years in prison.
