Queens man accused of killing girlfriend’s cat in brutal attack faces charges

Queens, NY — A Woodhaven man is facing criminal charges after prosecutors say he killed his girlfriend’s cat in a violent incident inside her apartment, leaving the animal with severe and fatal injuries.

Jalen Gonzalez, 23, was arraigned on a grand jury indictment charging him with aggravated cruelty to animals, criminal mischief, attempted assault, and harassment, according to the Queens District Attorney’s Office.

The charges stem from an incident just after midnight on January 12, when Gonzalez was inside his girlfriend’s residence. Prosecutors allege he became intoxicated and refused to leave, then grabbed the woman’s leg before she managed to break away and call for help.

When the woman returned to the apartment with a relative, Gonzalez was allegedly holding the cat, named Kitty, by the neck and hind leg and pulling the animal apart.
