Chaos in Dorchester as crash leads to savage roadside beating
DORCHESTER, Mass. — A minor car crash spiraled into a brutal street assault when two men allegedly smashed a driver’s window, dragged him from his vehicle and beat him in the middle of a Dorchester roadway, police said.
The chaos unfolded around 8:47 p.m. Tuesday near Blue Hill Avenue and Abbot Street, where officers responded to reports of a fight, according to Boston police.
Investigators said the victim had been trying to park near Blue Hill Avenue when he accidentally struck another parked vehicle. Unable to find a spot, he continued driving — but the occupants of the damaged car allegedly followed him.
Fearing for his safety, the victim attempted to get away by driving down Abbot Street, a one-way road, where he struck two additional parked vehicles, authorities said.
What happened next quickly turned violent.
Witnesses told police the two suspects jumped out, smashed the victim’s car window, pulled him from the vehicle and launched a vicious beating after the crash.
When officers arrived, they found the victim with a deep cut on the side of his face and bleeding from his mouth. He was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspects — identified as Anthony Shearrion, 41, of Jamaica Plain, and Arkie Swinson, 45, of Mattapan — were taken into custody at the scene.
Both men are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of assault and battery and malicious destruction of property.
