Authorities expand ground and aerial search efforts as resident remains missing overnight.
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Police and search teams continued an active search Saturday for a missing person identified as Joel, an austistic teenager, who was not located overnight in a heavily wooded area near his residence. Officers, detectives, and specialized search and rescue units are focusing efforts in dense terrain as the investigation enters a critical phase.
Authorities said the search operation includes the use of drones and forward-looking infrared (FLIR) technology to scan the area more effectively. Officials are also coordinating with local resources while urging the public to follow specific guidance to avoid interfering with ongoing efforts.
“Unfortunately, Joel was not located overnight. We are actively searching the heavily wooded area surrounding his residence with Officers, Detectives and Search and Rescue Teams,” Egg Harbor Township Police stated. “Due to the methodology of this search we are asking that all concerned citizens please stay out of the woods.”
Public asked to assist through surveillance and vehicle searches

Police are asking hunters with trail cameras in the surrounding wooded areas to review footage for any possible sightings. Residents and business owners are also encouraged to check surveillance systems and monitor the area from their vehicles rather than entering wooded sections.
“Anyone else that wants to help, you can stay in your vehicles and search the general area and surrounding businesses,” the department said. “Please call our Dispatch center (609) 926-4025 with any credible information.”
