Mother arrested after abandoning daughter at Pennsylvania gas station

Tannersville, PA – A New York woman was apprehended after allegedly threatening to stab her 13-year-old daughter and subsequently leaving her at a closed convenience store. Tonimarie A. Barrett, 42, faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, making terroristic threats, and recklessly endangering another person.

Prompted by a call about an abandoned child, police responded to a Turkey Hill convenience store early on Sunday around 5:19 a.m. First responders found Barrett’s daughter unharmed but alone at the location.

Barrett and her daughter had left a residence in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, around midnight for New Rochelle, New York. During their journey, Barrett stopped at a closed gas station to input directions into a GPS, where an argument ensued between mother and daughter that escalated quickly.

According to police reports, Barrett threatened to stab her daughter during the dispute. She then left her child at the closed business and traveled to a nearby gas station in Effort, Pennsylvania.

While at the gas station, Barrett did not attempt to search for her daughter or contact authorities. She later told police that after her daughter exited the vehicle, she realized her car required oil, prompting her departure to Effort.

Barrett was arrested by police and transported to Monroe County Correctional Facility, where she is awaiting arraignment before a district magistrate.

Pennsylvania man faces charges after abducting Louisiana teen in basement

Pittsburgh, PA – A 26-year-old man is charged with trafficking and sexual assault after allegedly abducting a 13-year-old girl who traveled from Louisiana to Pennsylvania. Ki-Shawn Crumity reportedly met the teen on Snapchat and convinced her to visit him under the pretense of helping her with adoption.

Crumity is among three suspects involved in the case. Law enforcement located the girl on October 30 at a home in the Brighton Heights neighborhood where she was found in a box in the basement.

The FBI executed a search warrant at the residence after receiving information from U.S. Marshals about the missing juvenile. The victim informed investigators that she had been given alcohol and marijuana edibles while being sexually assaulted multiple times a day.

It is alleged that she was initially transported from Louisiana to Georgia before arriving in Pittsburgh. Investigators later tracked her through her online activity.

This incident highlights the dangers of social media and human trafficking, according to Louisiana’s Attorney General Liz Murrill. Crumity is currently being held without bail in Allegheny County Jail.

Another suspect, 62-year-old Ronald Smith of New Orleans, was arrested in Georgia and is charged with kidnapping and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence in the case.

Body found in filthy home raises concerns over neglect

Uniontown, PA A 44-year-old woman with multiple sclerosis was found dead in her home under squalid conditions, prompting an investigation. Elizabeth Fike reportedly had not been out of bed for over three weeks before her death.

Fayette County Coroner Dr. Bob Baker pronounced her dead around 9 a.m. on Thursday. The coroner stated that the conditions within the home were deplorable and that her death is currently under investigation.

Baker noted that an autopsy is pending to determine the cause and manner of death. No arrests have been made as police continue to gather evidence.

The investigation revealed that Fike’s bed was covered in filth, with stagnant bathwater nearby. Surprisingly, a brand-new hospital bed and wheelchair were found in the home, both unused.

Fike was completely dependent on her live-in boyfriend, Tim Childs, who has faced no charges related to her death. Childs described challenges in caring for Fike, especially when she ran out of her medication.

He claims the medications were on order but had not arrived. Childs did not comment further due to the ongoing investigation.

The coroner emphasized the importance of checking on family members. Baker advised the public to report any situations that seem concerning and advocated for welfare checks in such cases.
