Juvenile Faces Charges in Fatal Franklin Township Crash

**Clinton Township, NJ** – A 17-year-old from Clinton Township, NJ, is facing charges following a fatal car crash that occurred on August 22 in Franklin Township. The accident resulted in the death of 16-year-old Sophia Detorres of Franklin Township.

On that Thursday at around 7:30 a.m., Franklin Township Police and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s Fatal Crash Team responded to a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Hogback Road, Route 617, and Lower Lansdown Road. Investigations revealed the juvenile driver exceeded the speed limit and failed to stop at a stop sign. There were three other juveniles in the vehicle during the crash.

The juvenile has been charged with second-degree death by auto, fourth-degree assault by auto, and two counts of disorderly persons assault by auto. Additionally, on September 6, Franklin Township Police issued motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving, careless driving, and violating probationary licensee conditions.

**BERNARDS TWP., N.J.** – A 15-year-old was arrested in connection with a carjacking at a gas station in Bernards Township on Wednesday. Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, along with Chief of County Detectives Francisco Roman Jr. and Bernards Township Police Chief Jon Burger, announced the arrest.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:35 a.m. at a gas station on Valley Road. The juvenile attempted to take a vehicle after assaulting an adult male who was adding air to his tires. After reversing the car, the juvenile moved forward, causing the man to be trapped underneath the vehicle until gas station attendants assisted.

Investigations were led by detectives from Bernards Township Police, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team. As a result, charges filed against the juvenile include first-degree carjacking and robbery, second-degree aggravated assault, and several other charges.

Initial efforts sought public assistance to identify a person of interest, who has since been ruled out as a suspect. Continued investigations, in collaboration with Metro Transit Police, led to identifying 28-year-old Rockville resident Muhammad Ibrahim Adam as the suspect.

Adam has been taken into custody and is charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
