JACKSON, N.J. — The Northern Ocean County Animal Facility is renewing calls to find a home for Tommy, a 12-year-old senior dog who has received no adoption interest since returning to the shelter after his owner’s passing.

Tommy, believed to be a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix, has spent the past year moving in and out of the facility due to his former owner’s illness. Now orphaned, he remains in the shelter, where staff say he’s become a favorite.

“He is not only a sweetheart, he is quite a character,” the shelter shared. Tommy is known for his squeaky toy obsession, vocal walks, love of treats, and upbeat attitude despite his age.

While Tommy does have age-related conditions — described as “lumps and bumps” — he remains active and alert. He is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped.

Ideal home sought for older dog with personality

Tommy has shown he can co-exist with calmer dogs but would likely do best as the only pet in a home where he can receive full attention. The shelter is open to adoption or transfer to any 501(c)(3) rescue group that can help him find a permanent placement.
