Shelter life breaks another heart as Ellie waits for help

JACKSON, N.J. — After spending much of her life in and out of shelters, a dog named Ellie is once again in urgent need of help. Staff and volunteers at the Northern Ocean County Animal Facility are pleading for a 501(c)(3) rescue organization to pull her.

Ellie, described as affectionate and food-motivated, has endured a difficult journey. She spent many months in a municipal shelter that has since closed and was then transferred to the Jackson-based facility. Despite having a foster and a trainer lined up, the shelter cannot release Ellie without the involvement of an approved rescue group.

“She needs help now,” shelter staff wrote, noting that Ellie has been passed around multiple times. She is nervous with new people but warms up quickly, showing affection through hugs and tail wags.

Ellie has passed all shelter assessments, shows no resource guarding behavior, and gets along with calm dogs that respect her space. Still, her time outside the kennel is limited, and the long-term shelter environment is taking a toll.

Foster and trainer secured but rescue needed to act

The shelter emphasized the urgency by referencing a recent success — another long-term resident named Rosalyn was just rescued thanks to the combined efforts of volunteers and rescue support. Now, the focus shifts to Ellie.

Any 501(c)(3) rescue able to help is asked to email kathleenfrett1@gmail.com immediately.
