Investigation leads to arrest in May shooting

New Castle- Delaware State Police arrested Malik Morgan, 22, of Wilmington on felony criminal charges after an investigation leads to his arrest for a shooting incident in May.

On Saturday, May 22, 2021, at approximately 4:30 p.m., troopers were notified by Christiana Medical Center (CMC) staff that a male subject checked into the Emergency Department with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Detectives learned through the investigation that the 24-year-old male, of Newark, DE, was walking through the parking lot of New York Fried Chicken, located at 3900 N. DuPont Highway, when a black male began shooting at the him numerous times. After the suspect shot at the victim, the suspect ran towards Memorial Drive. The victim was struck once in the upper torso and was transported by a private vehicle to CMC where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers located eleven shell casings at the scene.

Through investigative means, troopers identified Malik Morgan as the suspect. On February 4, 2022, Delaware State Police Special Operation Response Team and the U.S Marshal Task Force located Morgan staying at a residence on Kittiwake Drive, Wilmington, and took him into custody without incident.

Morgan was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Assault 1st Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony)

Morgan was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $105,000.00 cash bond.
