Silver spring woman dances her way to $50k powerball win

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A longtime Lottery player from Montgomery County was so stunned by her $50,000 Powerball win in the December 2 drawing that the excitement left her feeling unwell.

The certified nursing assistant purchased the $2 ticket at a 7-Eleven on Merrimac Drive in Takoma Park while chasing a $224 million jackpot. She didn’t think much of the ticket until a week later, when she scanned it and realized she had won a third-tier prize.

“I couldn’t breathe,” said the winner, who immediately called her daughter to confirm the numbers. The daughter, ecstatic for her mother, helped her schedule a visit to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, where they claimed the prize together.

The winner plans to use her windfall to pay bills, bringing some financial relief after the thrilling experience. The 7-Eleven where the lucky ticket was purchased joins in the excitement as another Maryland retailer celebrated a major win.
