Smoke pours from Clementona home as fire forces resident out

Quick response from firefighters prevents injuries but leaves homeowner displaced

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Thick smoke and flames pouring from the side of a home prompted a large emergency response Wednesday afternoon and left a Gloucester Township resident temporarily without a place to live.

The fire was reported at approximately 4:57 p.m. on June 3 in the unit block of Belleview Avenue in the Clementona neighborhood, according to Gloucester Township Police.

Emergency responders were dispatched after receiving reports of a dwelling fire with a possible trapped occupant.

When officers arrived, they found smoke and fire coming from the residence. Authorities quickly confirmed that the resident had safely evacuated the home.

Firefighters from multiple departments responded to battle the blaze, including members of Squad 88, a regional firefighting partnership involving Gloucester Township Fire Districts 2 and 4, as well as departments from Pine Hill, Chews Landing, Blackwood, Erial, Lambs Terrace and Winslow Township.

Additional assistance was provided by Inspira Basic Life Support and the American Red Cross.

Officials said no injuries were reported. However, the resident was displaced because of damage caused by the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Gloucester Township Police Department and the Erial Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office.
