Snow prompts parking restrictions and delayed openings in Dover

DOVER, DE – As snow continued to fall Sunday morning, Dover police issued a reminder that vehicles must be removed from key city streets within one hour of snowfall beginning or face towing.

The advisory, posted around 7 a.m. by the Dover Police Department, applies to State Street, Governors Avenue, Division Street, and Water Street.

Officials said the restrictions are necessary to keep routes clear for emergency vehicles and hospital access during the winter storm.

Motorists were urged to avoid on-street parking throughout the city to help snow crews plow and treat roads efficiently.

City facilities delay opening amid storm

In a related update, city officials announced that the Dover Public Library and Pitts Center will delay opening until noon while road and sidewalk conditions are reassessed.

Non-essential city employees were instructed not to report until further notice, while essential personnel are to report at their scheduled times.

The city noted technical issues with its employee weather hotline and directed staff to check official social media channels for any updates.

Caution urged for drivers

Police reminded residents to drive slowly, allow extra travel time, and be mindful of rapidly changing conditions as plow operations continue.

The Delaware Department of Transportation and Dover Public Works crews remained active throughout the morning to keep priority routes clear.

Dover police ordered vehicles off major streets and delayed city facility openings as snow made travel hazardous across the area.
